Clothing        by Emma

In colonial times, girls and boys had very different clothing than today.  Little girls and little boys both had to wear long dresses.  Girls had to wear the same kind of clothing that their mothers and older sisters wore.  Girls wore long dresses, aprons, caps and a cloak to keep warm.

When boys turned four or five, they got breeches.  Breeches are pants that come down to your knees.  Boys had to wear buckle shoes, stockings, muslin shirts and a vest or jacket.  They also wore three-cornered hats.

Poor people had homemade clothes and shoes.  Rich people got their clothing from England.  I would not want to wear the itchy clothing that they used to wear in colonial times.
