Quasset School, Woodstock, Connecticut

 The schools we have today have are larger than colonial schoolhouses.  In colonial times, schools were very small and only had one room.  In the winter the schools were very cold and were heated by a wood fire.  If kids didn't bring wood from home, they had to sit in the cold.  If there were 50 families in a community, they would have to build a school.  There were no desks in early schools and students had to sit on hard benches.  I am glad to be in the schools we have today because they are more comfortable than colonial schools.
