Teachers or Schoolmasters By Matthew

Most teachers were men in colonial times. They were called schoolmasters. Some women also taught the youngest children in Dame schools in their homes. Today teachers are paid by taxes, unlike in colonial times. Then, parents paid the schoolmasters with corn and other goods. Some teachers were kind and some were mean. I would rather have today’s teachers than colonial schoolmasters because they’re not as strict.
